The goal of this project was to make the Freeport of Monrovia access channel deeper and wider so that larger commercial vessels could enter the port.

According to the project’s scope, sand and silt were to be hydraulically removed from the port’s access channel and basin areas while waiting for the results of a pre-dredge survey that covered the whole channel and basin.

After the project was finished, about 300,000 m3 of sand and silt were dredged to make it simpler for ships to enter and exit the port. Dredge Masters Limited subcontracted Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors b.v. to carry out this maintenance dredging job.
